Don't Forget

IN the whirlwind that is media - there continues to be a vast maelstrom where 'clicks', 'views', 'likes' as created virtual vortex of misinformation which is used the great effect by marketing and public relations firms to confuse and (in some cases deceive) the average 'punter'.

We all live in a world where 'results' are tantamount to our success - so it's sometimes worth taking stock to evaluate what you're really setting out to achieve.

Firstly, if you're in the communications business - well then - communicate for God's sake! Communication shouldn't be seen as a standalone - but as part of a broader, holistic objective when it comes to promotion. 

Think long term - NOT short term solutions. Despite what you might see and hear - the prize at the end is consistency in message and solid, ongoing succcess. Getting the occasional sugar fix when it comes to results is great - but overall it's not good for your company's long term health.

Next, what a company or spokesperson does or says sets the agenda. The way news is delivered and perceived has changed. You're only as revered as your last quote or action. Remember that.

Relationship building is not about 'one meeting'. That first coffee, that first chat is what establishes how we take the next step in that relationship. You might have high expectations - but you DON'T have a relationship - yet. You can't live in a house that is only at the planning stage.

Finally, timing (like in comedy) is everything. How, when and where you pour your efforts into is everything. Be judicious when putting a strategy in place.
